VIBRATION ANALYSIS

 

Vibration analysis during an equipment operation and maintenance is one of the most important methods of nondestructive inspection. The vibration control and analysis makes it possible to perform monitoring and diagnostics of actual condition of electric motor, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, turbine units and other dynamic equipment.

 

Periodic measurements of an overall vibration and a spectral analysis of vibration signals make it possible to perform the monitoring of a machine current state, as well as to determine trends and make diagnostics of a current state with the purpose of:

  • Defect detection of assemblies at the early stages;
  • Prediction of the equipment remaining lifetime;
  • Prevention of emergencies;
  • Increase of service life of assemblies and whole equipment;
  • Reduction of equipment downtime during repair;
  • Reduction of expenses and volume of repair works
  • Production expansion

BALANCING

 

Balancing is a process of determining values and angles of rotor unbalance and reducing this unbalance by means of mass correction (for example, shaft balancing).

 

The dynamic balancing is one of the main stages during technical maintenance and repair of fans, electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, turbine unit, etc. New shafts and repaired equipment should be always balanced.

The dynamic balancing allows to reduce a vibration level up to the tolerance values, which provides production safety, increases machine working life, reduces energy consumption and decreases probability of emergency failures and shutdowns.

When designing machines engineers try to reduce harmful vibrations by selecting optimal design and manufacturing technologies. But during manufacturing and operation rotating parts suffer unbalance. To reduce the unbalance of the rotating parts they need to be balanced by changing their mass and geometry (static and dynamic shaft balancing) during their manufacturing, repair and operation. Thus, all cylindrical or symmetrical parts (shafts) must be balanced.

The proper shaft balancing extends service life of impellers and wheels by 23%-100% and increases available capacity of wheels by 10%-25%. The balancing 4 times reduces a surface waviness and 3 times increases performance of diamond wheels.

The shaft balancing should be performed for all the cylindrical and symmetrical about the axis rotation parts and rotors. BALTECH produces the balancing device BALTECH VP-3470 to perform the dynamic balancing of rotors in their own bearings. The BALTECH Balance balancing software allows to perform a multiple plane balancing.

 

ALIGNMENT

 

Shaft alignment is a procedure of determining and adjusting the relative position of two connected machines so that the rotational centers of the shafts are collinear.

 

The shafts alignment is one of the main stages during the maintenance and repair of electric motors, fans, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, turbine units, etc. The proper shaft alignment allows to:

  • Reduce vibration
  • Reduce energy consumption
  • Reduce wear of parts
  • Increase working life of parts
  • Enhance quality control 

BALTECH has developed and manufacturers inexpensive, simple and efficient electronic and mechanical alignment systems BALTECH SA «ShaftAlignment» Series, that allow to perform horizontal and vertical shaft alignment. All our alignment systems allow to perform the alignment with two methods: dial indicator method and radiaxial method.

 

OIL AND LUBRICANT ANALYSIS

 

Oil and lubricant analysis is one of the most efficient methods of non-destructive testing, since a machine working life depends on the lubricant condition.

 

Lubricant analysis should be performed during the equipment installation, startup, operation, maintenance and repair. Contamination (soot, fuel, water, mechanical particles), degradation and wear of a machine components change oil and lubricant properties which results in quality deterioration and service life decrease.

A periodic oil quality control enables to enhance a performance reliability of machines, reduce expenses for untimely oil change and equipment break down.

Oil degradation can lead to premature engine wear and failure. To detect changes in oil properties and possible contamination in time it is necessary to conduct a periodical oil control.

In this connection we have two questions:

  • How to check condition of new oil?
  • How to check condition of used oil?

TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Temperature control during an equipment operation and maintenance is one of the most important methods of the nondestructive inspection. The temperature measurement makes it possible to perform monitoring and diagnostics of the equipment actual condition.

The measurement data can be used to create trends and make diagnostics of the equipment current state with the purpose of:

  • Defect detection of assemblies at the early stages;
  • Prediction of the equipment remaining lifetime;
  • Prevention of emergencies;
  • Service life increase of assemblies and a whole equipment;
  • Reduction of the equipment downtime during repair;
  • Reduction of expenses and volume of repair works

BALTECH produces the pyrometers BALTECH ThermaLine Series for non-contact temperature control and infrared cameras BALTECH ThermaRedSeries for analysis of thermal fields.

BALTECH TL are the optical portable pyrometers, intended to perform a non-contact temperature measurement of object surfaces.

BALTECH TR are the infrared cameras, intended to easily and quickly analyze and display a thermal field distribution (temperature) of the object surface. The infrared imaging technology enables to reduce your expenses.

CHECK OF ROLLING ELEMENT BEARINGS

 

A rolling element bearing is one of the main units of rotor equipment. The manufacturing quality, storage conditions, mounting method - all of this influences a bearing working life. Today there are many bearing manufacturers, but unfortunately not every bearing meet the standards. A defect bearing can generate an elevated vibration and thermal heat thus leading to the working life reduction and emergency situation. Many enterprises have to conduct check of purchased bearings before their mounting. A bearing checking can contain the following: vibration measurement, geometry measurement, check of material hardness of rings and rolling elements, check of clearances, etc.

Precise geometry measurement of mating parts is a very important issue in the machine industry, power engineering, metallurgy, chemical industry, etc. It is critical especially during an equipment installation and repair. A foundation flatness and straightness influence force distribution during a machine operation. Flange flatness and shaft parallelism should be checked periodically. Today a precise and fast horizontal and vertical alignment, especially at large distances, is an expensive and hard task. Everyday service companies carry out this task at enterprises in all industries.

TOOL KIT FOR MOUNTING OF ROLLING ELEMENT BEARINGS AND GEARWHEELS

To ensure qualitative mounting of rolling element bearings, gearwheels and other parts it is necessary to use a special tool kit that allows to avoid damage of bearings, gearwheels and mounting seat.

According to the concept Reliability Technologies it is necessary to use a complex of equipment: vibration and balancing systems BALTECH VP, shaft alignment systems BALTECH SA, stands for bearing quality control BALTECH BCM, oil analyzers BALTECH OA, infrared cameras BALTECH TR, induction heaters BALTECH HI and a tool kit BALTECH TOOLS.

BALTECH TOOLS - is the tool kit intended to perform a simple and reliable cold mounting of rolling element bearings on a shaft or in housing. Sleeves, distance ring, seals can be also mounted with this tool kit. The kit consists of a hammer and 36 mandrels of different sizes. The main advantage of using the BALTECH TOOLS kit is that it prevents bearing race damage because during bearing installation ends of inner and outer rings are in one plane, shockproof polymeric rings uniformly transmit force to the bearing ring, while the applied shock pulse doesn't pass through rolling elements.

BALTECH HI (Heater Induction) - are electrical hot plates and induction heaters that are intended for use during the mounting of rolling element bearings and gearwheels. They are more cost effective in comparison with oil heating pots. Standard bearings should not be heated over 1200C, otherwise the bearing steel structure changes its properties which results in the reduction of the bearing working life. The BALTECH HI heaters are environmentally friendly because there is no need for oil disposal and purification. The BALTECH HI heaters have a temperature sensor for a heating temperature control and a function of automatic demagnetization of parts. The heaters are delivered with thermal-resistant gloves.

 

SOFTWARE BALTECH

BALTECH Expert software is intended for database management and storage of reports on vibration analysis, alignment, balancing and thermography. This software is also compatible with other measuring devices (vibration meters BALTECH VP). In this case there is no function of working with routes and measurement data should be entered manually. The software also allows to import the reports from the BALTECH TR infrared cameras and alignment reports from the alignment systems BALTECH SA Series. The software is easy to use.

The BALTECH Balancesoftware for a multiple plane balancing is designed to calculate balancing weights (masses). This is an independent balancing calculator, which can be used with devices of any manufacturers. The software makes it possible to perform the machine balancing with any phase and vibration amplitude testers. The integrated calculator performs calculation of a trial weight. The initial data for the calculation (amount of vibration and phase) should be taken by your device (e.g. BALTECH VP-3470) and entered into the software manually.
